our flagship program
Host program · Missouri

A small hive,
lived-with.

We bring the bees. You bring the yard. A managed honey-bee colony in a small footprint — back yards, rooftops, schools, churches, restaurants. We do the visits, the inspections, the harvests. You get the pollination, the jar of honey at season's end, and the best garden on the block.

— by August,
the tomatoes know.
How it works

Four steps. Then the bees.

From application to active hive in about three weeks during the season.

01

Apply

Tell us where you live, what's blooming nearby, and where the hive could go. Takes five minutes.

02

Site visit

A working beekeeper walks the spot, talks neighbors-and-pets, confirms it'll work.

03

Installation

We deliver the nuc and the equipment. You get a quick orientation. The bees do their thing.

04

We tend it

Bi-weekly visits, all the inspections, treatment, and the harvest. You host. We beekeep.

You get

What hosts actually get.

  • ✓ A managed Italian or Carniolan honey-bee colony
  • ✓ Bi-weekly beekeeper visits through the active season
  • ✓ All equipment, suits, smoker, frames — you don't buy anything
  • ✓ One 22 oz jar of honey at season's end, from your hive, with the apiary code on the label
  • ✓ A small "A Bee Nook lives here" sign for your yard (optional, opt-in)
  • ✓ Photos and a season report at the end of fall
  • ✓ The pollination effect — neighbors will ask
Honest about

What it isn't.

  • Not a pet — you don't feed it, water it, or open it
  • Not sting-proof — they're bees, and they'll defend their home if it's threatened
  • Not a substitute for telling your neighbors first
  • Not a year-round commitment for you — but it is for us
  • Not guaranteed honey — light years happen, even with healthy bees
  • Not available everywhere yet — see the map below

Hosts

What hosts say.

"I told my kids the bees were 'borrowed.' My kids told the bees they were home. The jar came back in October. We've already signed up for next year."
— [Host name], Springfield · Year 1
"I run a restaurant. We put one on the roof. The tomatoes on the patio doubled. The honey ends up in our cocktail program. It's the smartest line item we have."
— [Restaurant name], Branson · Year 2
"We host a Nook at the school. The third-graders named her Queen Beatrice. They are also, somehow, no longer afraid of bees."
— [Teacher name], [School] · Year 1
